Run Sheet

01/03/07

It seems that everyone here is still pretty much kicked in the teeth from yesterday's call. Those of us who were there are pretty bummed out.

After something like yesterday I find myself reflecting on just how many times I've seen it. Too many to count unfortunately. People assume you get used to it, or get hardened to it. You don't.

You get accustomed to it. This doesn't mean you get used to it. when you're used to something it doesn't bother you anymore. When you're accustomed to something it still hurts, but the pain is familiar. It's not friendly, but at least not new. The guys here are accustomed  to dealing with the aftermath of car crashes. We feel the pain, recognize it for the natural reaction that it is, and get on with our job. We're nowhere near as efficient as usual for a couple of days, but we sit down and talk our feelings through, we do some crying, we do some swearing, and we get on with our jobs. After all, who else will? Tempers are short, but no one takes things to heart. We all know what's going on. It will pass but it will never be forgotten.

People are still hanging around the crash site.
