Run Sheet

I got to go to a "Career day" at a high school today. That was fun.

I stood there in front of a classroom full of kids and explain to them what I do, why I do it, how I do it and how they would get hired or why they wouldn't.

I think I opened a few eyes when I said "I get probably thirty resume`s a week and throw twenty eight of them in the trash without getting past the cover letter. If there are two or more spelling mistakes in the cover letter I throw it out"
(Thank god none of them read my journal)

They all think that the job is saving lives and fighting fires, they never think of the paperwork, and the reports, and the records. Writing skill is every bit as important as any of the other skills.

Career day is fun, there are a lot of kids who will do well. I wish I could see them in ten years.

This afternoon I got to hear my kids playing a duet of "ode to joy" Eli playing it onthe piano and Max playing it on his guitar. I haven't got a single musical bone in my body, i can't carry a tune in a bucket. These two guys were butchering it something fierce, but it was the finest music I've ever heard. My kids were playing music, and playing it together, and I could recognize the song. I can't tell you how incredible that is. I don't mind the money spent on lessons and instruments even a tiny bit. That money could never have bought me anything as precious ever.

Nothing further to report, no real news but I figgered that if I didn't get my shit together and post an entry Kathleen would come up here and club me :)
