Run Sheet

I got to go to a "Career day" at a high school today. That was fun.
I stood there in front of a classroom full of kids and explain to them what I do, why I do it, how I do it and how they would get hired or why they wouldn't.
I think I opened a few eyes when
I said "I get probably thirty resume`s a week and throw twenty eight of
them in the trash without getting past the cover letter. If there are two
or more spelling mistakes in the cover letter I throw it out"
(Thank god none of them read my
journal)
They all think that the job is saving lives and fighting fires, they never think of the paperwork, and the reports, and the records. Writing skill is every bit as important as any of the other skills.
Career day is fun, there are a lot of kids who will do well. I wish I could see them in ten years.
