It's an extra day off for Canada Day here. Big celebrations everywhere. Kinda like the fourth of July in the US but without the fireworks.

Today I spent the afternoon working with my Bees. They're doing pretty well but things are happening pretty late this year. I find myself wondering if there will be much honey to speak of. Ah well, that's one of the joys of the craft. One never knows until later. Sometimes the honey can come in all in a whack, and sometimes it never does. The anticipation is a big part of the fun.

My family is away. Mary and the boys have taken off with our travel trailer to visit her grandmother in Kimberley, a little town in the mountains at the eastern border of our province. (Near as I can tell it's just North of the North-Eastern corner of Montana for you Americans) It's a twelve-hour drive. On Friday I'll be loading the dogs up in my Jeep and following them. we'll be taking a holiday in Alberta, visiting the Royal Tyrell museum of paleontology. It's one of the foremost collections of dinosaur bones and skeletons in the world. Should be worth three days of driving.

Until then, however, I'm living on my own. I don't have any problems with that other than loneliness. I can cook, clean, and survive with the best of them. Whenever Mary goes away she returns to a house cleaner than she left it (Which pisses her off no end) The boys and her have been gone since Friday. It never ceases to amaze me when they're gone just how goddamn quiet this house gets.

fortunately we're having a lot of firecalls so I'm busy. Unfortunately they're all small stuff.
